I originally visited ~AttempteStock looking for birdcage references, but came across cello stock instead.. my mother told me to paint it, so I did. The inspiration for the colours comes from a manipulation of the same stock done by ~DyingLaughter.

Acrylic on canvas. 37x37cm (cropped the photo slightly).

There's a lot more texture than you can see here. The details were a little hard to paint on the bumpy canvas, but I like the effect.

this is brilliant. i love the deep hues of the instrument against the pale yellow-green of her dress. i don't think she looks grumpy but preoccupied. the texture of the wall above her shoulder is particularly wonderful too, i love how it catches the light.

bravo

That is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. You are incredibily talented. Also, her shoulder just kind of disappears somewhere into the blackness, like her arm is just strung on somehow. Everything is absolutely beautiful though.

I had a bit of trouble blending the colours.. I painted the cello with my finger.. and part of the background. :P I'm glad you don't think she looks grumpy. Thanks very much.

Yes I was really stuck about what to do with that arm. Things that look fine in a photo don't always look right when painted. I guess I could make it a bit lighter so you can make it out. Thanks for that. I'm glad you like it. :aww:

Yah you are right about the expression...feel the dark areas could be reduced to brighten it up...
:iconjohdie:
Hmm I don't know, I like the dark areas.. I felt there was enough contrast with the dress to make it work. I prefer dramatic.

I really like this a lot. And I like the gloominess, it works so well with what I associate with 'cello'. And I know it's not all gloomy. But the atmosphere certainly is not happy or even pleasant, at least it doesn't feel that way to me. It's a strange kind of atmosphere, but it's transported in a very good way.
